Members of labour union FNV Havens, representing container workers, have voted to hold strikes at the Port of Rotterdam in December and January, local media reported on Tuesday.

RTV Rijnmond cited FNV leader Niek Stam that the strikes would be 24-hour strikes with the potential to freeze the movement of goods through Europe’s largest port.

Container workers are seeking no-layoff guarantees for the coming 9 years. The Port of Rotterdam and port employers have rejected that demand in contract talks which have been running since April.
